"Faith what is it."

Scripture Acts 3:11-16.     By Rev. Dennis L. Johnson

In (Romans 1:17) we are told the just shall live by faith.

(1) So, what is faith? First let me tell you what faith is not.

(A) Faith is not a fearful heart, (Matt.8:26), (Mark 4:40).

(B) Faith is not doubting God’s commands or His spoken or written words (Matt.14:23-33).

C) Faith is not reasoning in your mind If God will, or, if God can, do anything on your behalf ( Matt.16:8) Matt.14:15-21).

(D) Faith is not having an anxious or worried mind (Lk.12:13-34).

Now that we have learned what faith is not, we are back to our original question!

(2)What is faith? Jesus sums up the meaning of faith in four little words.

(A) Have faith in God, as Jesus told His Disciples (Mark 11:22).

(B) Have faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, as told in Acts 20:21, and

Also told in (Gal.3:22).

C) Have faith in the Son of God, as Paul told the Ga-la-tians (Gal.2:20).

James, the brother of Jesus, brings up an interesting question regarding faith. Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. In other words, Faith alone will not work (James 2:15-26). Through faith and works, faith is made perfect (James 2:22).

(3) In order for faith to work we need to add four ingredients to our faith.

(1) Have Faith in God, for with God nothing is impossible, as told to Mary by an angel (Lk.1:37).

(A) As Jesus told His Disciples, with God all things are possible (Matt.19:25-26).

(B) As Jesus told His followers, the things, which are impossible with men, are possible with God (Lk.18:27).

C) As God told Abraham, is anything too hard for the Lord (Gen.18:14).

In order for faith to work we must also add confidence to our faith.

(2) Now this is the confidence that we have in Jesus, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us (1-John 5:14).

(A) And if we know that Jesus hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him (1-Jn.5:15).

(B) As Paul said to the Ephesians, we have boldness and access with confidence to the throne of grace through faith in Jesus (Eph.3:12).

C) Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need or trouble (Heb.4:16).

In order for faith to work we must also add assurance to our confidence, and to our faith.

(3) Therefore, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.

(A) And let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He, who promised, is faithful ((Heb.10:22-23).

(B) Therefore, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.

C) And let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He, who promised, is faithful ((Heb.10:22-23).

Before faith will work we must also be hearers of the word.

The apostle Paul said, Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Rom.10:17).

For faith to work we must also be doers of the word, in other words, we must back up our faith with action (James 1:22).

Question! Can Jesus see our faith? I’m going to say that Jesus sees our actions that faith produces.’

Open your Bible to Mark 2:1-5.

Jesus was preaching the word. The paralytic's friends heard a word from Jesus, believed what they heard, climbed up on the roof, cut a hole in the roof and let their friend down so Jesus could heal him.

Personally, we all need friends like this. These friends will do whatever they have to do to get you healed.

Question! What are you doing to get Jesus‘ attention? Are you reading the Bible? Are you praying with tears? Are you asking God to have mercy on you. Are you praying and reminding God about what He said in the word concerning your situation.

God has a healing or a solution for your situation, its in His word, search it out, read the bible. Find a similar situation like yours and study it, and pray that God meets your situation like the one similar to yours.

(4) Faith that grows.

The Christians faith is supposed to grow as they put their faith, hope, and trust in the Lord Jesus.

(A) As the apostle, Paul said to the Thessalonians, We are bound to thank God always for you because your faith grows exceedingly

(B) as told to the Corinthians, as your faith increases, we shall enlarge our sphere (2-Cor.10:15).

C) As your faith grows so will your healing ability’s grow.

The Bible mentions three types of faith, no faith, little faith, and great faith.

it’s the person with the great faith that gets and holds Jesus’ attention.

Open your bible to Matthew 8-5-10

The centurion had so much faith that he told Jesus to just speak a word and his servant would be healed.

What did the centurion see in Jesus? He saw Jesus, a man with great authority, who’s words had power to heal.

When Jesus saw the Centurions faith He marveled, and said, assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

Shouldn’t God’s word be enough for our healing.

God’s word tells us how to be healed.

Open your bible to James 5:13-15.This passage is for the elders of the church.

Now let’s read James 5:16.

This passage is for the congregation

Study it often and remember if you want to be used as one of God’s healers you can not be a gossiper, or a busybody.
