Today is Fathers Day, so let me wish all our dads who are present, as well as those listening from home,
“HAPPY
FATHER’S DAY”
When I think of Father’s Day it reminds me of my dad Richard who had rules he expected his sons and daughter to obey. Likewise, our heavenly Father has rules He expects
His children to follow. God appeared on Mount Sinai and there he gave Moses the ten rules He expects His sons and daughters to live by as well. God said, I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
1) You shall have no other gods before Me.
2) You shall not make for yourself a carved image any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or
that is in the water under the earth;
3) You shall not bow down to them nor serve
them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous
God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
The children to the third and fourth
generations of those who hate Me,
but showing
mercy to thousands, to those who
love Me and keep My commandments.
4) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless
who takes His name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work.
but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no
work: you, nor your on, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
5) Honor your Father and your mother, that your days may be
long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6) You shall not murder.
7) You shall not commit adultery.
8) You shall
not steal
9) You shall not bear false witness against your
neighbor.
10) you shall not covet your neighbor’s house;
you shall not Covent your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servants, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.
In the book
of the Law, Moses writes, saying, you shall be holy for I the Lord your God, am holy; Moses writes in (Leviticus 19:2). If our earthly fathers take grate joy when they see their children imitating them, how more than, will God’s joy be full because his
children obey His commandments. In (Colossians 3:20) the apostle Paul said, children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to God.
Fathers perform many roles in the household,
not only are fathers the breadwinner, not only are fathers the breadwinner, but they are also the peacemakers in the home.
I can still hear my mother saying to me, wait till
your father get’s home, these are six words that no child wants to hear coming from his mothers lips, (LOL).
Whenever I think about my father, I have two regrets.
(1)
I never verbally said, Dad, I love you.
(2) I never said thank you, dad, after a Spanking.
My dad never punished me to harm me, but rather to correct me, when I go astray.
I never said thank you Dad, for making me into the man that I am today. In (Heb.12:11), the apostle Paul said now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those
who have been trained by it.
Dads Discipline your sons promptly.
In (Proverbs 19:18). Christian Dads are taught to chasten their son while there is hope and do not set
your heart on his destruction.
King Solomon writes in (Proverbs 13:24) saying, he who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly. Jesus joins in the conversation writing in (Rev.3:19),
saying, as many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Discipline is never meant to harm or destroy a child but rather to keep the son from going astray.
Sometimes being a dad causes heartaches.
David’s first child became ill shortly after birth. While the child was sick, David ate no food but fasted, prayed, and pleaded with God to heal the child, yet the baby died (2-Sam.12:1-24). The only thing that was able to comfort David’s
heart over the death of his child was knowing that he would see his son again in heaven. I believe one of the most horrible things for a parent to experience is the loss of a child to death. Dads, in (Jn.11:25-26), Jesus brings us the good news of the gospel
saying, I Am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, through he may die, yet he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Pray your sons and daughters believe this.
Fathers,
the good news this morning is, in (Matt.6:13) Jesus teaches Dads how to pray to their heavenly on behalf of their sons to ward of the temptations of the world which try to entice our children. Dad, pray for your
children.
Dads: teach your child to honor his father and mother for those who do so are promised a long life on the earth (Ex.20:12).
Dads: teach your sons to pray to their
heavenly Father in times of trouble, as told in (Psalm 50:15).
Dads: The apostle Paul says today God has given you the opportunity to be an example for your children. Paul says let no one despise your youth, but
be an example to your children in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.
